I was born in Fresno, California to second generation Italian – German emigrants. My parents, while not artists in the traditional sense, are quite creative. My father, T.L., grew up on a farm and has a rural industriousness. An electrician by trade, T.L. is a self taught carpenter, mechanic, welder, craftsman and stained glass designer. Although none of these are his daytime job. My mother, J.A., has been master of the kitchen for over 40 years. As a professional cook, the kitchen is her workshop. Specializing in Italian-American cuisine, other influences include Mexican and French. Dad recently upgraded the kitchen but Mom still doesn’t cook German food. They have been married for more than 40 years.

Luckily, I have found time to cook in Italy, Morocco, and Thailand, start my own wine company in Sonoma County, write the food blog TheCuredHam.com, build two custom barbeques, climb The Eiger and numerous high-altitude peaks around the world, traveled to 47 of the 50 United States, 6 continents, and try to capture some of those experiences with my camera. I have had a number of wonderful food experiences over the years. Some have been in restaurants; but many have been in backyards, huts, and in the sand on some beach. 

Why The Cured Ham? First and foremost...I love cured meats. Secondly, I can be a bit of a Ham. I write as a way to keep my friends and family updated on my experiences as an on-the-go  professional. The site is about food, wine, travel, and a few opinions.

I wanted to highlight a few sites that are run by friends of mine. Some are in the food and wine business. Others climb mountains for a living, others don't.
