Cuzco Coffee Company, Arequipa, Peru

No, not Starbucks (thankfully), but gourmet coffee has hit Arequipa. The Cuzco Coffee Company feels like an American coffee house and serves up fancy coffee. Let's face it, most places in Peru serve instant coffee and certainly not in large cardboard cups. The ones that don't serve instant typically serve espresso; which is fine by me. Cuzco Coffee serves espresso drinks and American style drip. I chose a fancy Cafe Mocha complete with whipping cream, a rare indulgence for me.

Most of the traveling my wife and I do is with a back-pack, staying in hostels, and it is a great way of getting to see the world. But we are not youngsters, and there are moments one wants to have a bit of luxury, and this spot fits it to the tee. It is lively, the coffee is great, the pastries are delicious. And if you are lucky enough to meet the owner, he might give you a coffee mug.
